The table presence alone sold me — the mat's surface is big enough that the whole campaign map sprawls out without cards hanging off the edge. It also grips the table so nothing slides when someone leans in to move a piece. Honestly it makes the base game look ten times more put together.
Wasn't sure a mat was worth it until our first four-player session, when the huge map tiles finally stopped sliding around mid-turn. The surface grips well and the printed borders make setup way faster. Genuinely glad I bought it before we started the campaign.
